Metro South Reliability Project – St. Louis, MO and St. Clair County, IL

Ameren

Reitz & Jens was contracted by Ameren Services to perform a geotechnical investigation for the replacement of three 138 kV transmission lines in South St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Missouri and St. Clair County, Illinois.  This project spanned over 12 miles and included the replacement of 131 electric lattice towers with steel monopole structures founded on large diameter drilled piers. Additionally, two 300-foot-tall lattice towers were constructed for the projects crossing over the Mississippi River, which were founded on large dimeter drilled piers and driven closed-ended pipe piles. This project encountered a wide range of geological conditions, including shallow bedrock, deep rubble urban fill, and alluvial floodplain soils. During construction of the foundations, Reitz & Jens provided CQA services including drilled pier and driven pile observation, and concrete testing.
