Lemay Community Center – St. Louis County, MO

Reitz & Jens worked with the St. Louis County Port Authority and St. Louis County Parks to provide all geotechnical services required during design and construction of the Lemay Community Center in Jefferson Barracks Park.  The Community Center included both indoor recreational facilities and an outdoor aquatic center with associated site improvements.  The initial Community Center site was located in a sinkhole band that required extensive subsurface investigation to identify the location and extent of each sinkhole so that a strategy could be developed for their treatment and stabilization.  As a result of this and other site development challenges, an alternative location was identified, and a similar scope of geotechnical investigation was completed. Reitz & Jens’ scope included investigations of both sites, and recommendations on alternative site layouts, building foundations, and sinkhole treatments that minimize the impact of the site geology, and estimating costs for alternatives to address the difficult subsurface conditions.  We also provided field quality control services during treatment of the sinkholes and installation of site and building improvements.
