Drury Inn & Conference Center – Cape Girardeau, MO

Drury Hotels

Reitz & Jens performed a geotechnical investigation and provided all CQA for the construction of a new Drury Hotel & Conference Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.  A preliminary and final geotechnical investigation was performed for this site.  Based on the borings, we determined that the geology at the project area was highly variable due to the presence of a filled sinkhole and pinnacled rock at the center of the site.  Rock depths on the property ranged from about 5 feet deep to over 100 feet deep.   From our boring data, we developed a field calculation framework to determine the necessary pier depths for the given structural loads.  During installation of the 90 drilled per foundations, an engineer was on site to categorize the excavated soils and rock to determine where the axial pier capacities had been achieved.

Additionally, Reitz & Jens performed slope stability calculations and provided design parameters for proposed modular block walls on the site.  The walls were up to about 11 feet tall, and needed to support vehicle loads and sustain earthquake loads.
