Frenchtown & Elm Point Levee Study – St. Charles, MO

City of St. Charles

Reitz & Jens completed evaluations and preliminary designs of feasible options to protect two key areas within the City of St. Charles during flood events up to the 500-year on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, as well as smaller adjacent streams.  The project required floodplain studies, internal storm and sanitary drainage analyses, geotechnical analysis, and preliminary design of levee, sewers, pump stations, roads, and closure structures. A geotechnical investigation was required for the study, performed by Reitz & Jens, and included geotechnical borings, Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) soundings, and soil laboratory testing. Reitz & Jens’ studies presented flood protection alternatives and costs, identified potential funding sources and economic benefits, and outlined future tasks, construction schedules, regulatory agency requirements and required coordination with utilities and stakeholders.
