The American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri selected Reitz & Jens’ Fishpot Creek Stabilization – Pepperdine Court project for a 2011 Honor Award. Reitz & Jens was retained by the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District to design and permit measures to stabilize 1200 feet of this creek on an emergency basis. Prior to stabiilization, erosion of the 20 foot high banks was threatening adjacent homes and an arterial roadway. Both the temporary and permanent stabilization were designed, permitted and built within a 1 year period beginning in April 2008 at a cost of $1 million. The award was given in recognition of this project’s unique use of rapid evaluation and design methods, and long term stabilization features that addressed the stakeholder’s concerns while providing long term protection of the environment.
