Sappington Creek Watershed Study

MSD retained a team lead by Reitz & Jens to complete the Sappington Creek - Meath to Gravois (GCXR-110) Preliminary Design. This project was to evaluate alternatives and recommended solutions, along with design parameters, preliminary construction cost estimates, and design/construction phasing options for channel stabilization improvements within the 1335 acre Sappington Creek watershed.

Metrolink Light Rail System

Since 1992 Reitz & Jens was retained by the general contractor during the original construction of two major segments of the Metrolink Light Rail System through heavily urbanized sections of St. Louis, and been retained by the transit agency to design repairs of other degraded sections of this system.

Columbia Bottom Fish & Wildlife Mitigation Project

Design and engineering services during development of approximately 808 acres of managed wetlands, and 300 acres of opportunistic wetland areas within the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.

Winghaven Development

Winghaven a 1100-acre mixed use development began in the mid 1990's. The development is located in the City of O'Fallon in western St. Charles County, Missouri.

Fountain Lakes Commerce Center

In 1997, MB Properties retained Reitz & Jens to provide all geotechnical engineering and construction quality control services required for the development of the Fountain Lakes Commerce Center. The 540 acre development is in the 100-year floodplain of the Mississippi River, and was raised out of the 500-year floodplain by adding up to 15-feet of fill from on- and off-site sources.

Lambert Airport Expansion Project

In 1997, the City of St. Louis retained Reitz & Jens to perform a preliminary geotechnical survey for the runway expansion at Lambert International Airport. The 9,000 foot long runway expansion and associated infrastructure improvements required moving of over 10 million cubic yards of earth, with cuts up to 55 feet deep and fills approaching 65 feet in depth. One MoDOT road was placed in a cut-and-cover tunnel beneath the new runway and ramps.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District

Under contract with the St. Louis District Corps of Engineers, Reitz & Jens provided Phase I Dam Safety Evaluations of non-Federal dams throughout the District boundaries on an as-needed basis. This evaluation was to determine whether the dams could qualify for registration permits from the Missouri Dam and Reservoir Safety Council.

River Des Peres Channel Rehabilitation

Since 1966, Reitz & Jens, Inc. has had a long history with the MSD on River Des Peres projects. At that time, an analysis of topography and properties of typical soil strata was performed that affected bank stability. Recommendations were presented to correct known areas of bank disturbance. In 1969, geotechnical investigations including slope stability analyses were performed at four additional locations of bank failures along the lower channel.

Compton Hill Reservoir Replacement

In 1985 Reitz & Jens was retained by the City of St. Louis Water Division to perform a dam safety evaluation of the Compton Hill Reservoir. Our analysis determined that this reservoir, built in 1867, had been sited over several active sinkholes which were causing water loss due to seepage, resulting in several slope failures.
